Diverging from the human-inhabited norm of the surrounding islands in Singapore, Keppel Island stood uninhabited. Originally bearing the name 'Pulau Hantu,' it underwent a transformation in 1983 and was rebranded as Keppel Island.
The waterway adjacent to Keppel Island has a rich history dating back to the 13th century. In those times, wooden ships would harness the wind's force, sailing down from the Straits of Malacca, traversing Singapore, and continuing their course to the South China Sea.
The island, now occupied by the Marina at Keppel Bay, underwent significant development. It became an extension of the shipyard when the Victoria and Albert graving docks at Tanjong Pagar were acquired for expanding the Tanjong Pagar Container Terminal in the 1980s.
From its roots as a bustling shipyard, Keppel Bay has transformed into a lavish retreat on the outskirts of the city center. The very grounds where seafarers once treaded now host luxury waterfront condominiums, seamlessly blending the docks of a bygone era into the fabric of modern Singapore.
